Hanson, Neil Oliver Neil Oliver Hanson - Pueblo Chieftain - December 31, 2005 - Neil Oliver Hanson passed away Dec. 29, 2005, in Pueblo. Neil was born Dec. 15, 1911, in Lily, Day County, S.D. Neil proudly recalled his childhood on a large pioneer farm, with his parents, Nels A. Hanson, a Swedish immigrant, and Anna Mathilda Johnson Hanson, daughter of a Civil War veteran. Following his graduation from high school, he attended Northern State Teacher's College in Aberdeen, S.D., but after one year decided his future was not in teaching. Instead, he joined the Armed Service, where he worked as a technician in the medical corps and experienced the invasions of Sicily and France. Neil loved to travel and enjoyed many adventures with his brother, Dr. E. Lawrence Hanson. He toured every province in Canada and every state in the Union, including a year in Alaska. His journeys included cruises on the Mississippi and the Caribbean, and week-long trips around the state of Colorado in his camper. In his spare time, he liked to fish and to read, especially history and poetry. He is survived by several nieces and nephews. At his request, no service, cremation, Davis Crematory.
